These Helpful Tips Will Ease The Process
There is no reason to pay movers for items you no longer want or need. Have a yard sale or donate them your unwanted belongings. There are many donation stations throughout San Antonio that could really benefit from those items. Additionally, plan to use up things that can’t be moved, such as frozen foods, bleach and aerosol cleaners. Drain lawn mowers or other items carrying oil or fuel.
You can do this online and with one stop have all interested parties notified. Call your newspaper courier, lawn services and others and set a date to cancel your subscriptions. Notify all friends and family of your address change.
Arrange to have school records transferred to your children’s new school district and/or daycare.
Pack one room at a time and use a color code system/labeling system for each room. This makes it a lot easier for movers to know what goes where. Heavier items should go in smaller boxes if possible. Pots and pans go in medium size boxes as well as clothing. Pillows, blankets, stuffed animals and any other large but not heavy items can go in large boxes. Wardrobe boxes are also available where items can be hung inside the box. One average size closet should fit in a wardrobe box. Be sure not to put too much weight in a box. Pack a box of personal items that will include all your jewelry and small valuables. Take this box in the car with you.

Contact your utilities companies to schedule disconnection of services on the day following your move. Call the utilities in your new town to arrange for service to start the day before your move so that you have service when you arrive at your new home.
